Hidden Italy

Australian Simon Tancred has been escorting small groups to Italy for ten years. Follow along ancient rural paths and medieval alleys to discover the heart of Tuscany and Umbria. For the independent traveller, there is also a selection of self-guided walks that can be arranged at any time of year. In 2003 France has been added to the programme of independent walks.

Service is personalised and you have the chance to get to know your travel companions

Simon established these group tours after five years living and working in Milan. The tours provided the perfect way of combining his twin passions for walking and all things Italian, particularly language and literature. Simon is currently a program manager at the University of New South Wales, Institute of Languages.

Hidden Italy has been taking small group tours to Italy since 1993, exploring some of the most fascinating and least visited parts of northern and central Italy. Hidden Italy specialises in “slow tourism”: well-rounded and flexible tours that give you the time to relax, unpack and really get to know the places you visit.

Each itinerary concentrates on a single area moving at a relaxed pace and the groups are restricted to 7-12 participants which means that you can move discreetly; service is personalised; and you have the chance to get to know your travel companions.

Program for 2003:

Guided Walk (May 12 to 19) to one of the most extraordinary and least visited parts of central Italy. A Hidden Italy special, the walk starts in the hills of southern Tuscany and finishes six days later in spectacular Orvieto in Umbria (good 3-star accommodation) AUD$2,750 (single supplement AUD$350)

Independent walks
Self-guided walking itineraries that give the independent traveller the chance to experience a side of Italy that others only read about. The three Italian itineraries include walks through the art and history of southern Umbria; the lyrical rolling hills of southern Tuscany; and the spectacular coastal paths of the Cinque Terre. Five to seven day walks from A$1,450 to A$1,750. For the first time a new itinerary in Provence from Avignon to the Dentelle Mountains takes in the less- visited parts of the region with accommodation in family run 3-star hotels. It is a seven day walk and the cost is AUD$1,750.
