Los Cabos, Mexico

Last year I was lucky to be able to extend my time after Virtuoso Travel Week to experience Los Cabos in Mexico on an educational trip.  This area is not on the radar for most Australian travellers but it makes a terrific stop for anyone wanting a sunny flop and drop type break on the way home from the US or Canada. Forget Waikiki and explore Los Cabos instead!

For anyone unfamiliar with this area, Los Cabos is located at the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsular. There’s 2 quite different areas to explore – tranquil San Jose del Cabo with the feel of an authentic Mexican town – cobblestone streets, intimate restaurants and boutiques radiating from the central main square  – or Cabo San Lucas, which is party central with plenty of funky bars to choose from.

We stayed in some amazing hotels many of which were rebuilt after Hurricane Odile hit the area in September 2014. Perhaps my favourite was Las Ventanas Al Paraiso, a Rosewood Resort, with it’s beautiful location, stunning rooms and public areas and incredible service.

Dining in the area was a particular indulgence with my favourite being at El Farallon at The Resort at Pedregal, which is tucked into the cliffs and overlooks the Pacific Ocean. You choose your seafood or steak and decide which of the beautiful sauces you would like to accompany it.

Another highlight for me was at One and Only Palmilla, dining at Agua by Larbi. A range of beautifully presented fresh seafood served on ice bed, with cocktails and wines to compliment the amazing cuisine.

I highly recommend you consider this area for your travels… The weather is perfect – particularly as a respite after a couple of weeks skiing in the freezing temperatures of the US or Canada with January daytime temperatures in Los Cabos hovering around the mid 20’s . .
