Le Meurice | Dorchester Collection | Paris

Kate McLean – Neutral Bay
Recently I was fortunate to take part in a famil with the Dorchester Collection visiting the stunning hotels in Paris (Le Meurice, Plaza Athenee), London (The Dorchester Hotel & 45 Park Lane) and Ascot (Coworth Park).   Here’s my thoughts on Le Meurice.

Le Meurice

Le Meurice is an elegant hotel located in the heart of Paris where 18th-century splendour and the most innovative modern comforts sit happily side by side.

The hotel has recently undergone some renovations with a brief to consider what a modern-day Versailles would look like.  The updates have created a series of lighter and brighter spaces, decorated with an array of the finest French fabrics,  alongside bespoke furniture and artworks.

I loved the warm ambience, gorgeous furnishings and attention to detail.  The amazing artwork relating to Paris and the history of the hotel was all so perfectly positioned and combined to create a real sense of place.

The location is fabulous – just steps away from the Musee du Louvre, Jardin du Tuileries and the Avenue du Champs Elysees.  Le Meurice also overlooks many of the city’s iconic landmarks.

There’s a total of 121  rooms and 39 suites ranging from Superior Rooms (35m2, with sumptuous marble bathrooms and views over the peaceful inner courtyard) right up to the incredible Belle Etoile Penthouse with Terrace.  This suite is on the 7th floor with a vast terrace with 360 degree views taking in the Louvre, Arc de Triomphe, Sacre Coeur, Musee d”Orsay and the Eiffel Tower!  It’s one of the largest suites in Paris at 620m2.

I loved waking up in the morning in my sumptuous suite to look over the Jardin du Tuileries and the only thing that could get me out of my suite, was the thought of breakfast at the Alain Ducasse restaurant.   The World’s Best Pastry Chef – Cedric Grolet made sure I needed to do lots more than just look out at the gardens with his incredibly French and elegant pastries!

Le Meurice

Even the butter is a work of art at Le MeuriceDespite the gorgeous surroundings, Le Meurice is actually very family friendly.  The hotel’s high chairs are designed by Philippe Stark, the beautiful cots include special touches sure to be loved – like the hotel mascot Pistache, and the cuisine is child friendly and sure to keep even the most fussy eaters happy.  The hotel has custom made boats to sail on the boat pond in the gardens, and staff can even organise a treasure hunt at the hotel for the little ones!  Perfect when the sightseeing fatigue starts to appear!

It’s easy to imagine being in Paris in the 18th Century as you walk down to the lobby via the beautiful staircase.   Outside the door Paris awaits and much within walking distance.

My overall thoughts of Le Meurice?  A perfect base from which to explore Paris.  The hotel is so close to the major tourist attractions yet a haven to escape to at the end of a long day.   The hotel staff offered consistently excellent service and were friendly, professional and incredibly knowledgeable.

Le Meurice is located at 228 Rue de Rivoli, Paris, France.   Mary Rossi Travel clients can take advantage of some wonderful value added benefits due to our membership of the Dorchester Collection Diamond Club, an exclusive, invitation only network for luxury travel agents from around the world.  A guaranteed one category upgrade at the time of booking is yours*, plus breakfast for two and other special benefits.  Ask me for more details by phoning me on 02 9957 4511 or sending me an email.
