There is no better time to explore our own backyard.  This seven day Self Drive NSW Itinerary takes you to the sea, the wine country and to the mountains.

The Itinerary below is fully customisable to your travel dates and interests.  Seven days from $1,695 for 2 people twin share. Optional activities available at additional cost.

Day 01 – Sydney to Port Stephens

With 26 golden beaches, a vast blue bay and many beautiful inlets, Port Stephens is an idyllic beach getaway. Freshly-caught seafood, local wineries and waterside, alfresco dining are available at cafes and restaurants at Nelson Bay and Tea Gardens. Port Stephens is home to around 150 bottlenose dolphins. You’ll find plenty of tours departing from Nelson Bay that offer dolphin-watch cruises or even kayak trips. Whale-watching is also popular during the annual migration north in June and July, and south from September to November. See them on a whale-watching cruise or from a headland in Tomaree National Park.

Our 1 hour quad bike ride takes in the wonders of the highest sand dunes in the southern hemisphere, the glorious views of the sweeping coastline and learn about history of the land.

Day 03 Port Stephens to Hunter Valley

All things delicious and fine come together in the Hunter Valley, a three hour drive from Sydney. Whether you’re after a round of golf or a spa day, a rustic long lunch or fine wine tasting experience, the Hunter Valley is primed to satisfy your senses. Some of Australia’s finest wines are produced in the region, with many of the top labels offering cellar door tasting experiences and vineyard tours. Visitors can book a guided tour to ensure they don’t miss any of the various attractions throughout the area. Winery tours can be booked via established companies and offer an insider look into the area’s rich history of viticulture.

Day 04 At Hunter Valley

Today is free to relax and explore on your own or take a tour.

Meet quirky characters and hear stories about Australia’s oldest wine region before returning to your Hunter Valley accommodation.

Full Day Uncork The Hunter (Shared Small Group Tour)

Includes: Hotel pick up and drop off from central Hunter Valley hotels, VIP wine tasting, cheese & wine pairing, chocolate & wine matching, grazing box lunch, brewery tour, mystery wine experience.

Your 7 hour tour of the Hunter Valley wine country will help you to uncork the unexpected & unique experiences. Get off the beaten track so you can find great Hunter wines that exist beyond the shelves of a bottle shop. Enjoy multiple wine tastings, a cheese & wine masterclass, chocolate & wine pairing, a super generous lunch, a glass of wine with lunch. As for the MYSTERY wine experience, this is a unique wine encounters that are not available to your average walk-in wine-taster. These are designed to build your wine knowledge while also getting you involved, having a few laughs, and allowing you to learn what makes Hunter Valley wine unique. Conclude the day with a tour of a working brewery and a few cold beers in hand before being dropped off to your Hunter Valley accommodation.

Day 05 Hunter Valley to Blue Mountains

Named the Blue Mountains because of the blue haze that can be seen by light interacting with the vapour emanating from the millions of eucalypt trees, this rugged region features dramatic cliffs, rock formations, waterfalls and caves. Many quaint villages dot the landscape, offering excellent restaurants, cafes, pubs, gardens, galleries, antique stores and other shops to entertain less energetic visitors. The area was listed in 2000 as Australia’s 14th World Heritage Area for its unique landforms, geological history, flora and fauna and its cultural significance to the Daruk and Gundungura Aboriginal people. Older than America’s Grand Canyon, the area is home to living fossils like the Wollemi Pine. Bushwalking, rockclimbing, canyoning, abseiling, mountain biking and 4WDriving are all possible.

Day 06 At Blue Mountains

Start your 5 hour tour with a walk from your Blue Mountains accommodation. This tour is fully tailored with your interests and needs in mind. Begin with a slight descent into Eucalyptus woodland and amazing views of the ancient wilderness country the Blue Mountains are famous for. Abundant birdlife and beautiful bird calls echo in the ancient rainforest, deep gorges and natural canyons. Crossing mountain streams beneath tall sandstone escarpments and huge waterfalls are just part of your World Heritage journey. You will explore the Aboriginal culture, fauna and flora that has existed form any thousands of years and the resources the canyons had to offer.
Note: Walks can have lots of stairs – Medium grade fitness with good agility is required for most walks.
